This post simply cleans up the current existing Iskandrian timeline, adding a few events, but without being completely exhaustive. I’ve left some wide spots in time to allow the addition of events in future lore posts.
Ancient History
Unnamed Ancient Civilization of Jhasaris: Once populated the lost continent of Jhasaris, predating the Vaelorian Ascendancy. These powerful and graceful people helped nascent nations, but were wiped out by a cataclysm that left the land cursed, blocking all Aether and creating an unnatural, permanent frigid storm that covers the continent. All that remains are ancient ruins, twisted beyond recognition and populated by horrors.
Ancient Civilization of the Isle of Whispering Sands: Remains of a civilization, with edifices made of an unknown obsidian-like material, exist on the Isle of Whispering Sands. This civilization is also older than the Vaelorian Ascendancy. The island exhibits an Aetheric drain similar to Jhasaris, suggesting the same ancient people might have inhabited both.
Origins of the Order of the Deep Watch: The origins of this Order are lost to time, predating even the oldest Vaelorian records. Legends among the Azari desert tribes speak of a time when its island home was fertile and the Sunken Paths (where the Order dwells) were a gateway to something unspeakable.
First Era
Peak of the Vaelorian Ascendancy (0 FE): Some 5,000 years ago, this mighty empire of necromancers rose to its peak, controlling the whole continent of Thalwyn for thousands of years. This event marks the start of the First Era.
Mighty Civilization in Karaestoia (134 FE): A powerful seafaring nation rose to control all of Kraestoa and had settlements in what is today southern Alderworth and Corania.
Collapse of Karaestoian Civilization (1056 FE): As their influence faded, so did knowledge of them. A cataclysm, believed to be the reason for this civilization’s collapse, reshaped northern Kraestoa. Southern Kraestoa became the vast, unexplored jungle known as The Green Hunger, filled with ruins thought to be large religious complexes. This event marks the end of the First Era.
Second Era
The Sun Eater’s Arrival (0 FE): A gigantic comet appeared in the sky and blocked the sun for a whole month. The event had a cataclysmic effect on many societies at the time, and caused a shift in the planet’s history, marking the start of a new Era.
Founding of the Academy of Natural Philosophy (453 SE): King Joeune of Helvonia founded the Academy of Natural Philosophy, the first of its kind.
The War of the Red Spores (1498 SE): This conflict was fought between the burgeoning Fegonoth Republic and a fungal intelligence (the Mycelian Hegemony) that erupted from the country’s forests.
Demise of the Vaelorian Ascendancy (1527 SE): Approximately 2,000 years ago, the empire met its end with the arrival of barbarian tribes that would later create the Alderworth Kingdom.
Founding of the Obsidian Guard (2047 SE): In the aftermath of the Great Pestilence, a catastrophic conflict where necromantic horrors from Ker Nethalas threatened Veldonia, the Obsidian Guard was founded as an elite order to safeguard the city’s entrances to the necropolis.
Unification Wars (2310 SE): Varkonos Silvercrest united several warring tribes, leading to the establishment of the Alderworth Kingdom. The new kingdom chose the already prosperous city of Veldonia as its capital, ushering in a golden age of prosperity and peace for the region.
The First Sealing (Year 3122 SE): The Obsidian Guard undertook the monumental task of sealing the primary entrances to Ker Nethalas using powerful enchantments and ancient rituals, marking the beginning of their unending vigil.
Third Era
Start of the Third Era (0 TE): Marked by a planet-wide magical eclipse that suddenly plunged the planet into a 50-year ice age.
End of the Ice Age (50 TE): After decades of combined efforts, the Order of the Dawn located the Eclipse Stone necessary to end the Ice Age. The Order’s most powerful magicians sacrificed their lives to create a new protective shield, building the Frostborne Citadel around it. With the stone contained, the eclipse ended abruptly, and the sun returned, bringing warmth back to Iskandria.
The Cartographer’s Guild Founded (173 TE): Approximately 300 years ago, this secretive guild was founded by scholars in the city of Wyverngate.
The Plague of Shadows (Year 257 TE): A mysterious plague spread through Veldonia, causing the dead to rise from their graves. The Obsidian Guard played a crucial role in containing the outbreak and combating the necromantic force behind it.
The Night of the Black Moon (Year 301 TE): On this ominous night, the barriers of Ker Nethalas weakened, and a horde of undead surged forth. The Obsidian Guard, aided by Veldonia’s militia, fought a desperate battle to push back the undead and reseal the necropolis.
Siege of the Seventh Circle (423 TE): Fifty years ago, Archmagister Kenna Vale earned her infamous reputation when she transmuted desert air into combustible gas, creating a swirling tempest of blue flame that annihilated a coalition of warmages attempting to seize the school’s secrets.
King Alaric and Serania in Galaka (431 TE): Serania, a fatebender, advised King Alaric of Galaka during a siege by the Fegonoth Republic, foreseeing a storm and guiding a successful counterattack. This event was one of the first to solidify fatebenders’ position as crucial advisors in Iskandria’s courts.
The Rise of the Ahar (464 TE): The renowned Thornbinder Herael Frazini moved his research facility from the Republic of Thermest to the Principality of Corania, lured by promises of infinite research funds. Shortly after, a wave of tall, branch-like humanoid beings, the Ahar, poured out of Frazini Manor (Herael’s secret compound) in Corania, quickly taking over the country within weeks. A year after the Ahar's initial appearance, the Principality of Corania as it had stood for centuries was over, effectively split in two.
