Pyroclasmic Possessors

Infernal fire

Across Iskandria, in places where the Material Plane has been scarred by intense heat or profane magic, a terrifying phenomenon can occur. Where volcanic rifts weep magma, where the Azari desert was turned to glass by the Archmagister’s fury, or where the veil to the Plane of Fire wears dangerously thin, a malignant blight from the Infernal Plane can seep through. This corruption does not birth demons in the traditional sense; instead, it infects the very essence of fire, creating parasitic spirits of smoldering dominance known as Pyroclasmic Possessors.

A Possessor has no stable body, manifesting as a spectral, heat-hazy figure wreathed in abyssal fire. They cannot maintain their presence in the material world for long without an anchor; to this end, they seek out living vessels, their primary goal being the utter subjugation of a mortal will.

The possession is a harrowing ordeal that involves incinerating the victim’s mind from within, searing away their identity and replacing it with a burning hunger for destruction. The host’s body becomes a walking furnace, their footsteps leaving scorched prints upon stone and soil and being constantly shrouded in fire and ash. Under the Possessor’s control, the victim becomes a puppet of incendiary rage, compelled to enact the spirit’s destructive whims and becoming a formidable threat. The spirit channels its power through them, allowing them to conjure molten projectiles that erupt from the very earth, as if superheating the ground into weapons. The Flamecasters of the Seventh Circle consider them a particular anathema, for they represent the ultimate corruption of the element they revere, and even their masters find it a grim and perilous task to exorcise a spirit without consuming the host in the process. Fortunately for the world, Pyroclasmic Possessors are a rare occurrence, and most mortals live their lives without ever encountering one.
