The Coven of Sacred Mysteries

The Coven of Sacred Mysteries is a shadowy cabal that has existed for centuries, shrouded in legend and rumor. Their primary goal is to uncover and master ancient rituals, tapping into forbidden knowledge and harnessing the power of the arcane, and coven members often commune with otherworldly entities, gain insights into the fabric of reality, and wield magic that defies the natural order.

Although the organization’s existence and history are largely unknown, they do actively seek new potential members, which causes them to often clash with other similar organizations. As a collective focused more on the pursuit of pure knowledge for knowledge’s sake than its practical application, though, they remain relatively small, with estimated numbers not surpassing the five hundred individuals.

The darkest chapter in the coven's history took place some fifty years ago, when a sorcerer named Vespera betrayed the coven to a group of witch hunters. In a brutal confrontation at Thorn Hall, the coven lost many of its members. However, Selene Nightshade, one of the most renowned leaders in the coven's history, managed to escape with a handful of survivors. This event led to the creation of stringent loyalty tests for new initiates and a secretive inner circle that safeguards the coven's most powerful secrets.

Aside from Selene Nightshade, who vanished mysteriously, leaving behind a cryptic prophecy about the coven's future, the most known member of the coven and current leader is without a doubt Arcturus Ravenwood. A former apprentice who rose to prominence, Arcturus is known for his mastery of elemental magic and his ruthless ambition. He led the coven during the period that followed the witch hunters’ attempt at destroying the organization, and was key to the coven’s survival thanks to using a powerful storm ritual to cover their retreat. He later sought revenge, leading the coven in a series of covert operations that decimated their pursuers.

In the present day, the Coven of Sacred Mysteries operates from hidden sanctuaries scattered across the land. They continue their pursuit of arcane knowledge, always wary of those who would seek to destroy them. The coven is rumored to have infiltrated several influential organizations, using their magic to subtly manipulate events from the shadows, even if it’s simply to ensure their own survival.
