The Hexbane
Hunting Extra-Planar Horrors

While there are plenty of organizations that focus on heresy and the worship of unsanctioned gods, there’s one organization specialized in dealing with the insidious threat of planar blight and arcane corruption: the Hexbane. The Order was formally codified in the early years of the Third Era (approximately 10 TE). As the planet-wide eclipse plunged Iskandria into darkness, the thinning of the veil allowed malignant spirits from the Infernal and Shadow Planes to seep into the Material Plane. The Hexbanes were the ones charged with following the Order of the Dawn, cauterizing the spiritual rot left in its wake.
Their philosophy sees magic as a finite resource that can be “poisoned” by extra-planar contact, and they view themselves as surgeons of reality, specializing in the detection and excision of persistent, self-sustaining magical anomalies that drain aether from the environment to empower dark entities. To achieve this, they use some very unique equipment, such as hex iron shackles that can bind even incorporeal spirits, ground obsidian to temporary dampen aetheric fields, or the large black salt censers that the high raking Hexbane Prelates carry to detect the presence of corrupted energies. Many members of the organization also possess the so-called “witch-sight”, the ability to see the shimmering, oily residue left by curses and planar tears.
The Hexbanes are often the ones called when a Voidborn is discovered in a village. Rather than leaving the child to die of exposure, the organization conscripts them, viewing their natural nullification of magic as the ultimate tool for hunting the many dangers the Hexbane were sworn to destroy.
Presently, the Hexbanes operate mostly out of a hidden sub-level of the College of Arcane Lore in the High District of Veldonia. While King Jeoff Silvercrest ignores their warnings in favor of his debauchery, the organization has become increasingly concerned with the planar leakage occurring in the Slums, where the Shadowsong Guild is rumored to be using extra-planar shortcuts for their assassinations.
